Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

What can I say about this book? First off, I am still in awe of the fact that Tia Williams herself commented on my recap post about the Epic Book Chat. I was not expecting that at all and it truly made me happy! I hope it made her happy to see how her words are being celebrated in various forms around the world.

Have you read the book Seven Days in June?

If you’re looking for an incredibly written, deep romance novel, grab a copy here!

Secondly, I am so happy that I decided to read this book and discuss it with others. This book touched me in a way that few have. The manner in which it was written truly blew me away; Tia Williams has a way with words that kept me coming back for more. Check out a quote from her book here.

The book explored the idea of coming back to a lover years after both parties have grown up and dealt with their trauma in various ways, some of the ladies at the Epic Book Chat felt that more emphasis needed to be placed on healing and I had mixed feelings about this. In some ways, the main characters did their own form of healing through writing and raising children. On another note, could the emphasis placed on healing have acted as a talking point for the need for healing in the Black community? Does this book, or any other book for that matter, have the responsibility to educate us on the importance of therapy or other such modalities or is it simply to entertain and make one think?

Those are questions for the ages, and it reminds me a of a scene in the book where an author panel is taking place. Various questions are posed around how Black authors navigate certain topics that their white counterparts aren't asked to do. Who places such responsibility on other people?

As you can see, this book made me think. It sparked some amazing discussion at the last Epic Book Chat, which was last week's blog topic. If you are looking to chat with other likeminded people, then don't miss the next Epic Book Chat on June 11th, 2023.
