Three Books by Black Authors that I'll Never Forget

Reading is one of my favorite past-times, but when I really want to veg out, I turn to reality shows, which I can sit and watch for hours on end. It's a real stress relief to sit and eat and watch shows that bring no real value to my life besides entertainment. Someday, I may create a blog centered around some of my favorite shows.

But for now, I am committed to continuing to celebrate books written by Black authors. Here are three books that I will never forget.

The first one should come as no surprise: The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris. This was the second book that I celebrated at an Epic Book Chat because it intrigued me so much. It is currently being streamed on Hulu, according to one of the lovely ladies that joined me at the Epic Book Chat; I have yet to check it out, so I do hope the show does this literary gem justice.

The book made me think about what it truly means to wear a mask. What does it truly mean to operate as a Black woman in the workplace? Do we always have to conform?

There’s nothing like reading a good book!

Read the book and let me know what you think about it.

Seven Days in June by Tia Willams is an incredibly written book that has also stuck with me. It's a story that I'll never forget about how two people with trauma-torn lives came together for seven days and never stopped thinking about each other. How beautiful is that?!

Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey truly changed the way that I look at productivity and this society in general. It helped me to understand how much capitalism is apart of oppression. I do my part by taking mental health days off work as needed; when I become a full-time entrepreneur, I'll have plenty of practice at living more than working. This book opened my mind to so much. Not that I ever did, but the idea of working 24/7 as an entrepreneur is even further from my mind than ever.

Those are three books that I'll truly never forget.
